A stalwart municipal market veteran, devoted friend, and beloved husband and father, George C. Mulry III, a managing director in public finance marketing at Assured Guaranty, died on Oct. 9.
He was 64 years old.
Mulry is remembered for the lives he touched and his unimpeachable work ethic.
He spent nearly 40 years within the muni industry, starting his profession at Greenwich Partners, where he managed the municipal underwriting department for 10 years.
He then moved to Prager and Co., where he served as managing director and manager of the muni underwriting department for 13 years.
Mulry was hired in September 2012 by Assured, spending the subsequent 12 years with the firm.
“George’s warm, energetic personality and gracious, thoughtful manner were a present to everyone who knew him and anyone who met him. He was dedicated to his family, faith, friends, and work,” said Rob Bailenson, Assured Guaranty’s chief operating officer. “George was loved and revered by so many individuals each inside and out of doors of the municipal industry, and he will likely be tremendously missed.”
“We’re all deeply saddened by the sudden passing of this dear colleague and friend, and we’re grateful that he was a part of the Assured Guaranty family,” Bailenson said.
While at Assured, Mulry was integral to the firm’s latest business development and in leading the execution of huge and complex deals.
He had relationships within the muni bond market that helped Assured further construct its reach.
Dave Andersen, managing director and head of underwriting at BofA Securities, was a detailed friend and colleague, who fondly remembered Mulry’s persistence in business and dedication in friendship.
“I could go on and on about my best bud George and the way he would give the shirt off his back for me; he has been instrumental in helping me throughout my profession,” Andersen said. “I’ll miss him greatly as a real friend through thick and thin.”
Described as a “once in a lifetime person,” Mulry had a “deep sense of gratitude” and shared his “positive energy and lightweight” with everyone he met, in keeping with his obituary.
“George was a cheerful giver who lit up lives and this world through every smile he gave,” the obit reads.
He had a circle of friends across the country, from Bay Shore and Long Island, Windfall College, Wall Street, Recent Canaan CT, California, and beyond, but greater than anything, he lived for his wife, Carolyn, and two children, Hollis and George IV, his obit reads.
Mulry is survived by them; his brother Clifford J. Mulry and his wife Laurette; sister Catherine M. Ludlow and her husband David; sister Sharon L. Healy and her husband John; sister Jeannine K. Darcy and her husband Andrew and a number of other nieces and nephews.
